Can I order McIntosh Yarn by dye lot?
Absolutely! You can't pick a specific dye lot for McIntosh Yarn because we sell so much. But the good news is, each skein of McIntosh Hand-dyed Yarn is created by hand using the same colour recipe.
Since it's done by hand, there might be slight variations in colour between skeins. But hey, that's the beauty of handmade stuff, right?
If you need a bunch (like 10 or more skeins) of the same shade, just send us an email at clan@knitmcintosh.com. We can whip up a custom dye batch just for you! Heads up, it might take a little longer to get it out the door, but we'll keep you in the loop.
I’ve discovered a knot(s) in my yarn. Is it faulty?
We know how frustrating knots can be! As knitters ourselves, we totally get it. Spinners work really hard to avoid them, but sometimes they happen. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the yarn. If you find a lot of knots, please let us know. We’re sorry about that. Our advice is to always break the knot and knit back to the start of the row, knitting the next row with the new yarn.
Addi and KnitPro Guarantees
Both Addi and KnitPro needles and crochet hooks come with awesome warranties on their craftsmanship. Addi needles are guaranteed for 3 years from the day you buy them, and KnitPro needles are covered for 2 years.
If your needles or hooks decide to take a break before you do, just send a picture of the culprit along with your receipt to clan@knitmcintosh.com. We'll get you a replacement for the broken needle or hook, not the whole set (unless, of course, the whole set mysteriously broke!).
Is the colour I see on the website an accurate representation of what I will receive?
We do our best to show accurate colours on our website. However, please keep in mind that colours can look slightly different on different computer screens. Many customers have commented on TrustPilot they are happy with the colours they buy from McIntosh.

What is the cost of delivery
Great news! If you spend £50 or more, UK shipping with Evri is free.
If your order is less than £50 Standard Delivery is £4.99 with Evri.
If you would like to upgrade your UK postage options we offer:
• Royal Mail Tracked 48: £4.99 (arrives in 2-3 business days)
• Royal Mail Tracked 24: £7.99 (arrives the next business day)
• DPD Tracked: £8
• UPS Tracked: £10
International Shipping: Sending your order outside of the UK currently costs £30 per package. Please be aware that you'll be responsible for any import duties or taxes charged by your country.
How is my parcel being delivered?
Your parcel will be delivered by one of our courier partners: Evri, Royal Mail, DPD, UPS, or another service - at checkout you are always given a choice.
When can I expect my delivery?
We aim to deliver your order within 3 days to most UK addresses. However, there are a few areas where delivery might take a bit longer.
If you ordered hand-dyed yarn, please allow up to 10 days for us to create your special colour.
We appreciate your patience!
Why have I only received part of my order?
Your order might be a bit too big to fit in one box, so we had to split it up. Don't worry, everything is on its way!
You'll find a number like "1 of 2" or "2 of 2" on the label. This tells you how many packages to expect. Unfortunately, we can't promise they'll arrive at the same time.
If you have pre-ordered some items that have not launched in the UK, we'll get them to you as quickly as possible.
What about customs and import duties
If you order something from our website to be delivered outside the UK, you might have to pay extra fees. These are called import duties and taxes. They’re set by the country you live in and we can’t tell you how much they’ll be.
It’s best to check with your local customs office or tax people before you order to find out what you might need to pay.
Remember, these extra costs are on top of our prices and delivery fee.
What are the return/replacement policies?
60 days no Quibbles guarantee.
If you're not completely happy with your order, you can return it to us within 60 days of receiving it for a full refund or exchange. Just make sure it's in its original condition and the packaging has not been opened and send us a copy of your email sales receipt too.
We’re happy to help, but please note that we can only offer refunds or exchanges – we don’t provide credit notes.
How do I return an item?
Not happy with your order? No problem!
You can return the item(s) with the email sales receipt for a full refund within 60 days as long as it’s in its original condition and the packaging unopened.
Simply email us at
clan@knitmcintosh.com and we will send you a postage label.
If you return an item, we’ll refund the price minus the cost of shipping it back to us.
If you’d like to exchange an item, we’ll send you a bill for the price difference between the items, plus the cost of shipping the new item to you and the original item back to us.
My item is faulty, what do I do?
Don't worry that your item isn't quite right! We'd be happy to help.
Just shoot us an email at clan@knitmcintosh.com together with your order receipt that was sent to you via email.. We'll then cover your return shipping and get you sorted with either a full refund or a replacement, whichever you prefer.
When can I expect my refund?
Once we confirm your refund, it should reach your account within 10 business days. Sometimes it might take a bit longer, depending on your bank.
Welfare, Diversity and Environment
Tell me about animal welfare?
We really care about the well-being of animals. After all, James McIntosh grew up on a farm. That's why we're against the hurtful practice of mulesing sheep. We make sure our wool comes from happy sheep and goats who live a good life in green fields. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure this. Want to know more about where our wool comes from? What is the McIntosh equality and diversity policy?
We believe everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. This means valuing everyone equally, no matter their background, who they love, what they believe, where they come from, or what they look like.
What is the McIntosh environmental policy?
We love our planet and want to keep it healthy!
That's why we do our best to be kind to nature. To save water, we reuse it when we colour our McIntosh Yarns, so no unwanted dye ends up in the water. Our yarn dyes are special! They’re made to be gentle on the environment while giving our yarn beautiful colours. Almost all the dye sticks to the wool, so we use very little and hardly any goes to waste. Plus, our dyes are safe and don’t need any harmful chemicals to work their magic. We even use things from our kitchen to help set the colour.!
We also try to use less plastic and our packaging is made from recycled paper. We’re always looking for new ways to be even greener.
